The boys track team competed in the IHSA Sectional Championships last Friday night. There were many great performances on a cool evening at Elmwood Park High School. The 4 by 800 meter relay of Ned Kalata, Lupe Herrmann, Mick Flannery and Ian Kwit finished in 6th place. Patrick Peters placed 3rd in shot put narrowly missing qualifying for state. His personal best throw is now the 2nd best in Montini history! The 4 by 100 meter relay of Jonny Palumbo, Nick Gerbasi, Johnny Ernest, and Nick Fedanzo finished in 1st place and qualified for next week's state meet. Palumbo and Fedanzo also qualified in the 100 meter dash. Jayden Gertsen ran 9:57 in the 3200 meter run finished second and qualified for the state meet. The final state qualifier for the evening was freshman Jackson McWhinney. Jackson finished in 2nd place in the discus and is the first freshman to qualify for the state meet since 2004! Congratulations to all who competed and good luck next weekend!
